Requirements
- Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data/Business Analytics, Statistics, Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Relevant professional BI certification is preferred, such as Microsoft Certified: Power BI Data Analyst Associate, Tableau Certified Data Analyst, Qlik, or MicroStrategy certification.
- Additional certification in SQL, data modelling, or Agile/Scrum methodology is an advantage.
- Minimum of 5–7 years' hands-on experience in Business Intelligence and reporting development, including at least 2 years in a senior or lead capacity.
- Demonstrated experience designing and building semantic and reporting layers, including measures, DAX/MDX, hierarchies, and RLS, using at least one enterprise BI platform such as Power BI, Tableau, Qlik, MicroStrategy, or Looker.
- Proven experience delivering BI and reporting solutions on EDW-backed projects, preferably within Telco, Financial Services, Oil & Gas, Retail, or Healthcare environments.
- Experience conducting technical design/code reviews and mentoring junior BI developers.
- Experience working within structured delivery methodologies, including requirements gathering, FRS sign-off, UAT, change control, and production deployment. Experience in ISO 9001/27001-aligned environments is an advantage.
- Advanced proficiency in at least one enterprise BI and visualisation platform, including Power BI, Tableau, Qlik, MicroStrategy, or Looker, with supporting tools such as DAX Studio and Tabular Editor.
- Strong SQL skills for semantic-layer development, data analysis, and query optimisation.
- Working knowledge of version control and collaboration tools such as Git, Azure DevOps, SharePoint, and Confluence.
- Strong understanding of data visualisation, dashboard design, UX/UI principles, and corporate branding.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills, with strong attention to data accuracy and quality.
- Excellent stakeholder-management and communication skills, with the ability to translate business requirements into technical BI specifications.
- High level of integrity and discretion when handling sensitive and confidential client data, with sound understanding of RLS, access controls, and information security principles.
- Willingness to travel to client locations across Africa as required.
Responsibilities
- Own the end-to-end delivery of the BI and reporting layer for client EDW and BI engagements across multiple industries.
- Design and develop semantic and reporting layers, including measures, calculated fields, hierarchies, row-level security (RLS), and naming standards.
- Lead the capture and documentation of BI-specific requirements, including dashboard layouts, report types, drill-through hierarchies, RLS rules, and data-refresh SLAs.
- Design and develop interactive dashboards and reports in line with approved wireframes, corporate branding, UX/UI standards, and drill-through navigation requirements.
- Configure automated report distribution, subscriptions, and data-refresh schedules.
- Optimise dashboard and report performance through appropriate use of query folding, aggregations, DirectQuery, Import mode, and other performance-tuning techniques to meet agreed SLAs.
- Conduct BI solution design and code reviews to ensure adherence to technical and development standards.
- Mentor and provide technical guidance to Mid- and Entry-level BI Developers.
- Develop and maintain BI documentation, including report catalogues, measure dictionaries, user guides, and technical specifications. • Develop BI-focused training materials and deliver advanced training to power users and business analysts.
- Own the resolution of escalated BI incidents during post-implementation support, working closely with the Team Lead, Data Architect, and other technical stakeholders.
- Collaborate with Data Engineers, Data Architects, Business Analysts, Project Managers, and client stakeholders to deliver scalable and business-focused BI solutions.
