As part of our continuous transformation, we are seeking a Storage Engineer to join our team.
This role is ideal for a hands-on infrastructure professional with strong experience in enterprise storage, data protection and recovery operations, who is passionate about availability, performance and data resilience in mission-critical environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Administer and support enterprise Storage environments across production and project platforms.
- Monitor storage service availability, performance and capacity thresholds, and proactively address risks.
- Provide operational expertise across EMC PowerMax, VMAX, VNX, ECS, HPE 3PAR and Data Domain platforms, including replication technologies.
- Perform backup administration using tools such as EMC NetWorker, Avamar, Data Domain and DPA.
- Configure and manage backup media retention, LUN creation and overall storage capacity and space management.
- Ensure that all servers, databases and enterprise systems are backed up in line with approved policies and regulatory requirements.
- Perform in-depth analysis and troubleshooting of storage backend issues, including Brocade SAN switches.
- Manage and upgrade HBA firmware and drivers on UNIX and Windows servers.
- Troubleshoot HBA-related issues across both Windows and UNIX operating systems.
- Produce reports and drive corrective actions on failed or missed backup jobs.
- Plan, coordinate and execute periodic restoration drills (including Exchange, databases, applications, operating systems, file servers and SAN environments).
- Configure and maintain backup schedules for both project and production systems.
- Optimise tape usage without impacting backup performance or service availability.
- Manage daily offsite tape movements and perform periodic audits of offsite storage locations.
- Develop, review and maintain backup operational procedures, standard operating instructions and data protection policies.
- Execute backup and recovery activities during incidents, maintenance windows and disaster recovery exercises.
- Lead and support technology refresh and upgrade initiatives within the storage and backup domain.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering or a related technical discipline.
- Minimum of 5 years’ hands-on experience in enterprise storage and data protection environments.
- Strong practical experience with EMC storage platforms, Data Domain and HPE 3PAR.
- Proven experience administering enterprise backup solutions such as EMC NetWorker, Avamar and DPA.
- Solid understanding of SAN environments, including Brocade switches, zoning and connectivity.
- Strong experience supporting both Windows and UNIX/Linux server platforms.
- Good working knowledge of replication, disaster recovery and business continuity practices.
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills with the ability to resolve complex infrastructure issues.
- Excellent documentation, communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, enterprise environment.
